Apple has removed Coinbase’s iOS app from its App Store without any clarification less than a month after it first appeared.
First reported by Bitcoin Blogger, the Coinbase app delisting was confirmed by developer Craig Hammell later on with a message “We didn’t remove it.”
Coinbase updated its iOS app in October with features such as allowing users to buy, sell, send and manage their virtual currency while on the move. The previous version of the app didn’t allow users to buy and sell Bitcoins – primarily because of concerns raised by Apple.
“We’re not sure why it was taken down and we’ve reached out to Apple to request clarification,” said Coinbase CEO and co-founder Brian Armstrong while speaking with TechCrunch.
This is not the first time that Apple has delisted a Bitcoin related app. Previously Blockchain Wallet and BitPak were delisted by Apple and Blockchain was only allowed back with limited functionality void of Bitcoin buying and selling capabilities.
The Android app of Coinbase is still available on Google Play store.
Hmmm, I guess my next phone is not an iPhone.
The boycott of all Apple products is back on!
