Premium compact cars are getting increased attention lately with more and more younger drivers hitting the road and Citroen has upped the ante in this segment with its new DS4 and DS Crossback.
To be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor show later this month, the new DS4 builds upon the success of the previous version of the car which has already sold 115,000 units. The new version, which will go on sale in November, will boast new exterior and interior styling, new engines and new safety and connectivity tech. But, just as importantly, a greater selection of personalisation options.
According to Citroen, there are quiet a few exterior colour options to pick from and inside leather trim is available not just for the seats but also on the door panels and other surfaces.
However, the biggest decision in terms of personalisation is whether to go for a traditional hatchback or for a crossover. And that’s because the car will be available in two different body styles — DS4 and DS4 Crossback.
According to Citroen, crossovers now account for 30 per cent of premium compact hatchback sales and it seems this is what the company wants to bank on for future growth.
Inside, a new 7-inch touchscreen display has enabled Citroen to get rid of 12 switches and knobs that cluttered the dashboard in the outgoing model and to add support for Apple CarPlay. And, thanks to Mirror Link technology owners of older Apple smartphones and those that prefer an Android handset will also be able to connect their devices and mirror a host of their functionality to the new car’s dashboard.
Other tech on offer includes blindspot monitoring, keyless entry and a reversing camera plus a smart traction control system.
“New DS 4 and DS 4 Crossback bring together the best in DS technology. The result: two new DS vehicles with a very strong personality and an incomparable level of equipment and finishing — generally reserved for the next segment up,” said Eric Apode, VP Products & Business Development, DS Automobiles.
