Google has added data compression to its Chrome app for iOS and Android, which it claims will reduce data usage by as much as 50 percent in turn helping you save money on data bills.
“When enabled, Chrome’s data compression and bandwidth management can reduce data usage by up to 50% while browsing the web on Chrome for Android and iOS”, notes Matt Welsh, Software Engineer at Google in a blog post Wednesday.
The compression feature can be turned on by navigating to Settings option of Chrome app, then Bandwidth Management, Reduce data usage. Google also revealed that this particular feature will also enable Chrome’s Safe Browsing technology that will protect users from malicious webpages.
The new release of Chrome for Android will now allow you to create shortcuts to your favourite websites right from the homescreen for faster and easier access to the web.
Google also announced its plans of releasing translate feature to Chrome for iOS in next few days. “With this update, you can now translate webpages in Chrome with the click of a button on your iPhone and iPad, just as you’re used to on Chrome for desktop and Android”, notes Welsh.
