Apple’s decision to delay launch the iPhone 6 in mainland China has left some furious and others disappointed. The Chinese feel they have been rebuffed though it is one of the biggest markets, next only to the US.
Some feel the delay may be due to regulatory measures concerning the bureaucracy. However, Cupertino has refrained from making any comments as of now.
One Chinese wrote in a local news portal that “They assemble the product in China, but don’t release it here first?” Some pissed off at Apple’s strategy are calling for a boycott of the company’s products. Another user wrote in Sina Weibo, “They are obviously looking down upon China. Let’s all boycott Apple.”
Even as tempers run high, enthusiastic diehard Apple fans are planning to join many others into travelling to Hong Kong and purchasing it on September 19.
According to the recent reports, iPhone 6 is yet to receive mandatory approvals from Chinese authorities. Certification of phones is essential for selling mobile phones in China.
Gene Cao, an analyst with Forrester Research said that the current delay is not likely to quench the inherent demand for Apple products, while another analyst with IDC said that the delay could actually fuel the demand further high.
It comes to light that vendors and dealers have already commenced booking for iPhone 6, and some may even enter the mainland stealthily. Some predict prices may be higher than actual retail price for now, but will drop to normal once it is officially launched.
