Canon on Thursday launched its new cloud-based photo storage solution dubbed “Irista” to be at par with other leading rivals including Picasa, Flickr, Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud and others.
The new service, Irista is dedicated only for photos, allowing user to store, organize and share images in the cloud, with support for JPGs and raw format photos but not document, video or any other files.
Irista is not bound by any sort of file-size limitations and it is capable of automatically syncing new snaps to specific image collections. Users will be able to tag photos and search for them using different criteria including the date, time, location, and even the type of lens used for taking the pictures. As it’s a Canon service, you can also expect the image’s EXIF data, such as the camera’s model, aperture and ISO speed, exposure time, etc, to be listed on each image in Irista.
Users can also share pictures on social networking sites like Facebook and Flickr and even keep a track of subsequent comments within the Irista interface. Initially codenamed as ‘Project1709’ during the development stage, Canon’s Irista is now official and live.
As regard to the pricing specifications, the service is free for 10GB of storage. Users living in the UK and selected European countries can also opt for £4.49/€4.99 for 50GB a month or £45.00/€49.00 a year and £9.99/€10.99 for 100 GB a month or £99/€109 a year.
