Digital downloads of gaming titles has been catching up with its disc based counterparts, but one of the primary disadvantage of digital library is having to wait until the game is downloaded and this could be particularly a frustrating thing as launch day congestions and server hogs could take away the fun forcing quite a few to drive down to their local game retailer for a physical copy.
This is about to change for PS4 owners as Sony has announced the long awaited pre-load feature. All new titles available for preorder after May 20 including Battlefield Hardline, Far Cry 4, LittleBigPlanet 3 and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be available to pre-load on the PS4.
The feature, which Sony claims has been in the works since March this year, will allow users to download pre-ordered games before the release date enabling them to enjoy the game after they are released without much of a delay.
“We all know that some of the biggest games can take a while to download, and with the pre-load functionality, you’ll be able to download and install those huge files up to several days in advance”, wrote Chieh Chen, digital distribution manager at Sony Network Entertainment.
“And don’t worry if you forget: any titles you’ve pre-ordered will be automatically pre-loaded and auto-downloaded to your PS4 system by default.”
Currently there are 11 titles that are available for pre-load, but as mentioned earlier, all titles available for pre-order after May 20 will also pre-load.
