Activision has announced shipping of $1 billion worth of Call of Duty: Ghosts copies to retailers, but all is not well for the game as several users as well as reviewers have revealed frame rate issues with the game on both PlayStation 3 as well as PlayStation 4.
Several sites including IGN, Polygon, and Joystiq have claimed that there are either technical issues with the game or frame rate issues in single player as well as multiplayer modes.
IGN notes that the game looks identical in Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3; however, the reviewer did “encounter occasional framerate issues during the single-player campaign on PS3 and PS4.”
Call of Duty: Ghosts on PlayStation 4 supports native 1080p support and that may be true; however, Polygon notes that “the game did struggle to maintain a steady frame rate,” specifically during “hectic multiplayer matches.” The reviewer notes that the PS3 version also showed up similar problems, while Xbox 360 version maintained a steady frame rate of 60fps.
Joystiq reviewer had similar experiences with Xbox 360 version as the game maintained “rock-solid 60 frames per seconds gameplay.” However, PlayStation 4 version may be marred with “noticeable technical issues, sometimes slowing to a crawl, particularly during set-piece moments with multiple effects.” Joystiq notes that the frame rate issues occur throughout the campaign on PlayStation 4.
