A British High Court judge has ordered a blockade of 21 new pirate sites including BitSnoop, TorrentDownloads, ExtraTorrent and mp3skull effective on all major UK ISPs effective today.
The court order is a result of the complaint filed by the BPI, which backs British Music Industry, which claimed that the mentioned filesharing sites are heavily involved in unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material and content. The latest order marks BPI’s largest ever victory till date taking the total number of blocked site to 25. Last time around, court ordered blockade of Fenopy, H33t, Kickass Torrents, and The Pirate Bay.
BPI claims that approach court was the last resort it was left with after it failed to persuade the sites to “cooperate in a meaningful way.”
The new list includes 9 torrent sites and 12 ‘aggregator’ sites including 337x, BitSnoop, ExtraTorrent, Monova, TorrentCrazy, Torrentz, BeeMP3, Bomb-Mp3, FileCrop, FilesTube, Mp3lemon, and Rapidlibrary among others.
The latest order follows the seizure of torrent site domains like ExtraTorrent, SumoTorrent, and MisterTorrent. The seizure was forced upon domain registrars through a carefully worded letter by The Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) of the City of London police earlier this month.
In the letter, which didn’t have backing from any court, PIPCU claimed that the domains were involved in “criminal distribution of copyrighted material either directly or indirectly and are liable to prosecution under UK law for the following offences: Conspiracy to Defraud, Offences under the Fraud Act 2006, Copyright, Design & Patents Act 1988.”
Darn you bpi! Love mp3skull, will have to update my bookmark of that through a proxy wasting yet another 30 seconds of my time! (Shakes fist)
cds cost pennies to make
then stick a few quid on for marketing, company profits then artist profit
so at the most £4.99
So why are cds creeping up in price yet again? is it because piracy is being clamped down on and if you want to listen to something you will be forced to pay full price for it, no longer can we buy cheaper cds etc from Jersey.
A VPN costs £25 (approx) a year unlocking all these sites and also makes you anonymous. 1 CD costs approx £12 a PC game can cost £40+…..
