BlackBerry could soon roll out a new smartphones powered by Android – a move that may eventually hit a nail on the BlackBerry OS coffin.
The report first appeared on Reuters, which said that BlackBerry’s decision of release a full Android smartphones is a part of company’s new strategy that intends to focus on software and device management.
According to the report, BlackBerry’s all-Android smartphone will be a slider, with a physical keyboard that folds out portrait. If you remember BlackBerry’s announcement at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year, the Android smartphone sounds remarkably similar to the device that Blackberry teased at the event, which had a curved screen and a fold-out keyboard.
“We don’t comment on rumors and speculation, but we remain committed to the BlackBerry 10 operating system, which provides security and productivity benefits that are unmatched,” Blackberry told Reuters in a statement.
Though the move from BlackBerry could mean that the company will itself launch a competing product against its BlackBerry OS powered smartphones, an Android smartphone makes a lot of sense as it could become a saviour of the company. Further, with only enterprise software to concentrate upon and no extra burden of consumer OS, BlackBerry could eventually strengthen its position in the enterprise market.
