BlackBerry has revealed that it will be adding BBM Voice and other new features to BBM for iPhone and Android in 2014.
BBM for iPhone and Android will be getting BBM Voice feature allowing users to place voice calls to their BBM contacts across the world for free. BlackBerry introduced its BBM Channels for BlackBerry 10 and BBOS back in November and it will be extending this feature to BBM for iPhone and Android in 2014.
“BBM Channels are a great way to join conversations happening with the BBM community beyond your contact list”, notes Sean Hungerford, head of Product Management for BBM in a blog post.
“By creating your own channel you can start conversations sparked by your thoughts, ideas and passions”, he adds.
BBM will also be getting faster file and photo sharing features and users will be able to share voice notes and locations as well. The location sharing feature is controlled through a timer and as soon as it runs out, the user’s location will go private again.
“Share photos in a snap, send a voice note with just one touch and more. And get this, you can even share your location, live, for a limited time with any contact you choose. When the timer runs out your location is private again.”
BBM for iPhone, Android will also be getting a lot of new emoticons – 100 to be precise. The new features are in beta testing phase as of now and will be released over the course of next few months.
