Nexus 5 16GB is retailing on Google Play Store for just $349 without any contracts; however, Best Buy is selling the smartphone for a whopping $799.99 off-contract.
The $799.99 Nexus 5 will be on Sprint Network, but even Sprint isn’t asking for that much as it sells the handset for $449.99 – $100 more than Google’s list price. It is understandable that retailers add a premium to off-contract “replacement” devices, but we have never seen anyone tagging a device with a price that is more than twice the list price.
Best Buy stores have had special Google sections to showcase the company’s products including the Nexus 5, but it has stayed mum on its Nexus 5 plans for some reason. Chances are that the $799.99 price may just be a place holder and the listing may be updated with a more affordable price soon.
Those who have ordered their Nexus 5 through Play Store have been warned by Google that there could be order processing delays in tune of weeks. Those who have received the confirmation need not worry as they are in the clear, but those who haven’t may expect wait times before they get to play with their Nexus 5.
