BlackBerry has opened the floodgates, as promised last week, by making its BBM for Windows Phone 8 beta available publicly allowing anyone owning a Windows Phone 8 device to download its messaging app.
“After a short run in private beta, I’m happy to announce that BBM for Windows Phone is being publicly released to the Windows Phone store in beta starting today”, announced Donny Halliwell Social Media Marketing lead and Editor for the Inside BlackBerry blogs through a blog post.
BBM for Windows Phone 8 is different from the app on other platforms and the reason, according to BlackBerry, is that it tried to pick up the UI design specific to Windows Phone. The app packs all the core messaging features you would find in Android and iOS variants including messaging – individual and group; contacts; and feed.
Features such as stickers, BBM Voice, Channels and location sharing won’t be available right now and we expect these features to be added later on through updates.
