BBC on Sunday announced that it has extended iPlayer and iPlayer Radio service catch-up window to 30 days.
Previously iPlayer viewers were able to catch on their favourite shows for only 7 days, but from now onwards the deadline has been extended to 30 days.
Announcing the extension, Tony Hall, Director General at the BBC, said “BBC iPlayer pioneered online viewing. It is recognised as not just the first, but the best service of its type in the world. It offers amazing value. But we want to go further.”
Hall noted that to be the reason for the company to begin reinventing iPlayer earlier this year with a brand new redesign and features and that extending the catch-up window to 30 days now makes the best value on-demand service even better. BBC has a fantastic autumn schedule and the public will now have more opportunities to watch the shows they love, he added.
The extension, originally announced in April this year, has now been put into effect to coincide with the channel’s autumn schedule, which is considered as one of the most popular times of the year for TV viewing. Drama shows Peaky Blinders and The Fall are expected to be a major attraction for iPlayer users.
The BBC also revealed that Sherlock’s ‘The Empty Hearse’ was the most popular show on BBC iPlayer with over 3.6 million requests.
