Audi has inked a deal with LG Chem and Samsung SDI under which it will be developing a battery for its purely electrically powered sport utility vehicle with the two South Korean suppliers investing in the cell technology in Europe.
Under the plan, LG Chem and Samsung SDI will be supplying the required components and material from their European plants.
As per Audi’s plans, it wants to develop a battery based on the new technology giving drivers of the Audi sport utility vehicle a range of more than 500 kilometers.
With Audi’s move, Europe will strengthen its position in the battery market and the latest battery-cell technology said Dr. Bernd Martens, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Procurement.
Because of the high performance provided by cell modules, Audi will be able to supply a technological solution that makes electric cars even more attractive for our customers.
“With our first battery?electric Audi?SUV, we are combining an emission?free drive system with driving pleasure,” said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Development. “We will optimally integrate the innovative cell modules developed with LG Chem and Samsung SDI into our vehicle architecture, thus achieving an attractive overall package of sportiness and range.”
