An attack tool that specifically targets Healthcare.gov has been released by a hacktivists that go by the name “Destroy Obama Care!”
Claimed to be a means for launching a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on Healtcare.gov, the tool has been advertised on some social networks. The about page of the tool claims that it is not a virus, worm or a Trojan, but is rather a “program continually displays alternate page of the ObamaCare website” notes Arbor Networks report on the tool.
“You can open as many copies of this program as you want. Each copy opens multiple links to the site”, the page reads further. The creator of the tool also claims that Obamacare is an insult to the constitutional rights of US citizens and that “We HAVE the right to CIVIL disobedience!”
Arbor Networks tool notes in its report that the tool has been coded in Delphi and basically initiates multiple layer seven (Application layer) request to Healthcare.gov – specifically two URLs, https://www.healthcare.gov & https://www.healthcare.gov/contact-us
The security company claims through its analysis of the tool that the standalone tool lacks a distributed attack architecture and “many other limitations make this tool unlikely to succeed in affecting the availability of the healthcare.gov site.”
