Microsoft has announced Lumia Cyan software update for Lumia devices running Windows Phone 8 that will upgrade Lumia devices to Windows Phone 8.1 and a range of new features.
If the update hasn’t hit your Lumia device yet, it will do so over the course of next few weeks in the form of over-the-air update and if you need help installing the software update, you can follow the below steps.
Prerequisites:
- 1.5GB of free storage space. To check the current storage space on your handset you can tap on Settings > Storage Sense.
- Ensure that you have a stable Wi-Fi connection over which the update can download without issues.
- Ensure that your smartphone has at least 80 percent charge left or have it plugged in to avoid issues due to lower battery.
Update process:
- You should get a notification when the update is available for your handset. In case you don’t get the notification, you can manually check for update after connecting to a Wi-Fi connection. To do so, tap on Settings > Phone Update.
- If the update has arrived, you can choose to install the update straight away or delay it until you get connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the install. Considering it’s a major update, it will take fair amount of time (somewhere around 20 minutes).
Features:
- Windows Phone 8.1 packs a range of features including
- ability to add a third column of customised Live Tiles to home screen;
- enhanced People Hub that provides an even better and one-stop location for address book and social networks;
- Action Centre;
- Wi-Fi Sense;
- Word Flow keyboard;
- Coratana (region specific);
