Apple has publicly acknowledged battery issues in iPhone 5S and has offered a replacement for affected devices; however, details were sparse during the initial announcement. Now more details have surfaced which throws light on how Apple is planning to go ahead with the whole replacement programme.
Apple has reportedly educated its AppleCare reps with symptoms of a faulty battery in the iPhone 5S which can cause longer charge times, shortened battery life, or won’t charge at all. Apple has already identified the serial numbers, which may have a faulty battery, and will be proactively calling them offering them a replacement.
If customers feel that they have an iPhone 5S with a possible battery issue, they may call up AppleCare. The AppleCare representative will check for the serial number and confirm whether the customer is in possession of a handset that is eligible for replacement. If the customer has an iPhone 5S, which is already on the pre-determined list, he / she can proceed with replacement in a number of ways.
Either they can visit their local Genius Bar or call up an authorized Apple reseller or have a new iPhone 5S mailed to them at an address of their choosing. In case of the final option, Apple will send out a new iPhone 5S along with shipping material to send back the afflicted phone.
In case the caller doesn’t have an iPhone which is present in the list, the representative will proceed with troubleshooting according to normal guidelines.
