Rumors suggest Apple is working on to launch a mini version of its iPhone dubbed iPhone 6s Mini and that it would mark Apple’s return to the 4-inch screen standard used earlier for the iPhone 5 and 5S.
According to an AppleInsider report, Timothy Arcuri, an analyst with Cowen and Company, in a note issued to investors, said that Apple may launch a new 4-inch iPhone variant in 2015, dubbed iPhone 6s mini, which is expected to feature a new design with curved screen edges, much like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The smartphone will join the current generation screen sizes of 4.7- inch and 5.5-inch.
It is expected that the alleged 6s mini version would be launched as an attempt to replace Apple’s ‘cheaper’ smartphone, the iPhone 5c, that failed to attract customers.
As per the report, Arcuri is claiming that the new 4-inch “iPhone 6s mini” may include “purpose-built low cost components” from Qualcomm to keep the price down.
“We believe specs [for the 6s mini] will be close to iPhone 5s, but with curved screen edges like the iPhone 6 and may include some purpose-built low cost components,” Arcuri said.
Also, according to Acruri, the Cupertino is currently working on a 12.9inch iPad set to be released sometime in spring of 2015. It is expected that the giant tablet will initially ship between 15 and 20 million units.
As AppleInsider noted, Arcuri has a mixed track record on Apple iPhone rumors. He did correctly predict some of the iPhone 6 features before the phone’s release but his prediction about a powerful processor for the iPhone 6 Plus turned out to be incorrect.
Apple is yet to comment on the report.
