Apple has put out its annual “Best Of” apps lists for 2014 naming the top apps on its iOS ecosystem – both paid and free – while also revealing the editorial picks.
Minecraft – Pocket Edition was named the best paid app for both iPad and iPhone while Candy Crush Saga was named the top grossing app on iPhone while Clash of Clans grabbing the top grossing app title on iPad. Monument Valley, developed by London-based outfit Ustwogames, was blessed with Apple’s editorial pick of the year title.
Messaging apps dominated the free iPhone apps chart with Facebook Messenger leading the pack followed by WhatsApp, and Snapchat. The same trend was seen in free iPad apps chart as well with Skype for iPad topping the list followed by Facebook Messenger.
Out of the top 10 free iPad apps streaming apps took away four positions with Netflix, YouTube, BBC iPlayer, and ITV player. Microsoft made its presence felt with Microsoft Word making the cut in free iPad apps chart at fifth position.
