Apple will be holding a special event on October 22 to unveil its new iPads – iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 – alongside Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks, sources close to the matter have informed AllThingsD.
The Cupertino-based company will be unveiling a brand new version of its original 9.7-inch iPad along with iPad mini 2. The company will also be showing up Mac Pro refreshes alongside OS X Mavericks. Apple only announced iPhone 5S and 5C during its previous event and this makes October 22 event a huge possibility. Apple’s spokeswoman, Trudy Muller, declined to comment anything on the matter.
If the report is true, Apple’s event will coincide with the Nokia World event which is also scheduled on the same day in Abu Dhabi. Microsoft’s Surface 2 tablets will also go on for sale publicly on that day. It seems that Apple is going to hold an event on that day to overshadow any announcements by Nokia and the public availability of Surface 2.
It is still not clear where Apple will be holding the iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 event. Last month, Apple launched its iPhone 5S and 5C models at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, whereas the company unveiled iPad Mini and Mac last October at the California Theatre.
Leaked pictures of iPad 5 suggests that the new full-sized iPads will look somewhat similar to last year’s Mini, but will come with a thinner design, a portrait shaped bezel and more angled edges. It is even rumored that the new iPads will come with Apple’s Touch ID sensors which will allow the users to unlock their phone and purchase apps, music and more from the App Store with their fingerprints.
