According to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is known for his accuracy about Apple predictions, has revealed in a latest research note that iWatch production have been pushed back to November because of new challenges and that Cupertino will ship an estimated 3 million units this year.
Kuo’s estimations peg a November production commencement – a month later than previous estimations because of never before used combination of hardware components.
It is believed that Apple will be using a curved OLED display – something that it hasn’t done so far in its consumer grade products. On top of that it is said that it will be using a Sapphire glass to ensure that the iWatch remains scratch free. These two components itself pose a high complexity issue – the analyst claims.
Further, there are reports that Apple is looking to place the iWatch as a smartwatch-cum-fitness device and for that it will be using a range of sensors capable of providing information on calories burned, hydration, and sweat. All of this, it is said, will be packed into a new system-on-a-chip that Apple has designed.
If this wasn’t enough, it is said that Apple is looking to meet with high waterproofing standards that will provide to be a challenge in itself.
Another challenge that Apple would face is to redesign iOS such that it fits the miniature hardware of iWatch while also catering to the needs of iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch.
