Apple is rolling out its iPad trade-in programme to retail stores in European countries, allowing customers to trade in their old tablets in exchange for credit towards a new iOS device.
Several Apple retail stores in the UK now sport an advert on their website pages that reads, “Trade in your old iPhone or iPad and get credit towards a new one.”
9to5Mac reports that iPad trade-in programme is now available to UK, Spain, Germany and France. The programme, which kicked off in the US and Canada on Earth Day last month, offers owners of the original iPad, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4 and original iPad mini, with a chance to get a credit towards a new iPad or iPhone.
The iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 devices with Retina display are not eligible for trade-in under the scheme, but users can opt to upgrade to one of those devices by cashing in their old devices. However, Apple is yet to open the doors for the programme to all its retail stores as the advert seems to appear only in select store pages.
The programme follows the similar in-store iPhone recycling programme that was launched in US last August and expanded to UK a few months later. The company promised £220 for a 16GB iPhone 5 in pristine condition and in cases of damaged or locked devices, Apple offered only £55. The company also accepted broken iPhones for exchange, though it had an impact on the credit received.
There’s no word on trade-in values for older iPads in European countries as of now, but it is expected to be something similar to the amounts offered in the US.
