There’s never a dull day in the iPhone 5S rumor mill and today brings another nugget to chew over.
The good news, at least according to Bloomberg, is that the iPhone 5S looks set to launch later this year with a 4.3-inch screen – the biggest ever fitted to an iPhone and much closer to the expected 2013 standard.
As for the bad news – said oversized screen has apparently forced Apple to push the iPhone 5S release date back to the very tail-end of the year, so no fall iPhone launch to look forward to.
According to the Far Eastern sources quoted by Bloomberg, Apple had already begun production of the iPhone 5S, though decided to slam on the brakes and make a radical change of plan at the last-second. Having apparently decided that the likes of the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 were indeed onto something with their massive 5-inch screens, the decision was made to up the ante with a 4.3-inch panel for the iPhone 5S.
Just for the record, the current iPhone 5 has a screen of 4-inches, which although a step up from the iPhone 4S is still rather on the timid side compared to its biggest Android rivals.
So this is all well and good for those intent on handing over top-dollar for the biggest and probably the best iPhone ever created, but what about those sitting on their frugal cash-stacks for the affordable plastic iPhone we’ve heard so much about?
Well, according to the report it’s still all systems go for an affordable iPhone launch as early as October. This would mean that Apple is still going ahead with full production of the cheaper plastic iPhone, but has at the same time started iPhone 5S production, then changed its minds, stopped production and summarily started it again with bigger screens in-tow.
Call me skeptical, but to be perfectly honest it’s all sounding a bit far-fetched.
