Apple has reportedly sold over 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units in just three days after the new iPhone iteration went on sale on September 19, Friday.
Announcing the news, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said “Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier.”
He said the company wants to thank all its customers for making it the best launch ever, shattering all previous record sale figures by a large margin. He said that with better manufacturing ramp than ever before, the Cupertino could have sold many more iPhones if supplies had been available. However, the company is working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible, Cook added.
Last week Apple announced a record 4 million pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the first 24 hours after advance sales began, more than double the 2 million orders received for its iPhone 5 model in the same period 2 years ago.
The first weekend sales of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models has also surpassed analyst’s 10 million sales expectations. In comparison, the iPad maker sold around 9 million iPhone 5S and 5C models last year in the first weekend after they were made available for sale.
The 2 new models, which were launched in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK on Friday, will soon hit the shores of another 20 countries on September 26 and will be on sale in a total of 115 countries by the end of the year, Apple confirmed.
