Latest figures reveal that Android has less reported app crashes than iOS and Samsung Galaxy S4 is the most stable device with a 0.9 percent crash rate, while the Apple’s iPad 2 has the highest crash rate at 2.6 percent.
According to the new report by Crittercism, a performance monitoring company, Android apps crashed at an average of 1.7 percent of the time on Gingerbread, while the crash reports on Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean and KitKat combined was just 0.7 percent.
Apple’s iOS 7.1 crashes 1.6 percent of the time, while iOS 7 crashes 2.1 percent of the time. Comparatively iOS 6 crashed at a much higher rate of about 2.5 percent. The study claims iPhone 5 to be the Apple’s most stable smartphone.
The report notes that 47 percent of apps crash at least 1 percent of the time, with 32 percent of the apps shutting down over 2 percent of the time. Games crash 4.4 percent of the time that is twice as much as apps. Photo and video apps crash 1.8 percent of the time, while E-commerce apps report the lowest average crash rate of 0.4 percent.
“There are a 100 million factors that affect the performance of a mobile app. As new mobile platforms such as wearables grow in adoption, the challenge to provide a consistent, high-quality experience to users will be even more difficult and mobile teams need purpose-built solutions to manage overall app performance,” says Rob Kwok, CTO of Crittercism.
Based on Crittercism’s report, the latest version of Android OS is more than twice as stable as the iOS’s latest version. iPhones and Android smartphones are much more stable compared to iOS and Android tablets.
The report also claims that Canada and Japan have the fastest response times with 0.8x and 0.9x respectively, while India has the slowest response rate of 2.1x. European users experience speedy response times at 1.2x.
