While speculations are galore about the next dessert that will be bestowed with the honour of being the next Android version’s name, Google might just have discreetly floated the official name triggering another series of theories.
Celebrating its sixteenth birthday this Saturday, Google released an image with a cake decked with so many lollipops on top that one could almost call it a layer altogether. The spongy, layered-cake displaying the ‘Google colours’ when sliced, was accompanied by the words “Ok google, why do we put candles on birthday cakes?”
With all these hints, will ‘Lollipop’ be the real official name for Android L? Or is it merely a distraction to divert the attention from the actual name?
Tentatively-dubbed ‘Android L’ at the moment, the most recent version of the operating system is likely to be unveiled next month. Previous reports claim that it will be launched alongside Google’s new Nexus 9 tablet and Nexus 6 smartphone. However, Google is doing well in keeping the manufacturer’s identity for its latest offerings under tight wraps, with a number of speculations pointing it to be either Motorola or HTC.
Android L is soon expected to hit the market with improved security and more advanced voice recognition.
