Amazon is the latest to publicly release its workforce diversity figures on Friday adding to the list of major tech giants including Apple, Twitter, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and eBay.
The Seattle-based company in its report revealed that its total workforce is 63 per cent men and 37 per cent women. Among leadership roles, the gender gap is even wider, with men accounting for almost 75 per cent of those positions and women for the rest 25 per cent managerial roles.
In the US Amazon said 60 per cent of the work force is white and accounts for 71 per cent managerial positions, while blacks made up 15 per cent of the employees, but only 4 per cent of its managers.

Hispanics comprised 9 per cent of the total workforce and only 4 per cent of manager positions. Asians accounted for 13 per cent of the total workforce and 18 per cent of the managerial roles, while others make up 3 per cent of the workforce and management posts.
In addition, the online retailer’s workforce diversity report also describes its efforts to help encourage diversity both within the company and in the industry itself.

Such initiatives as Amazon calls ‘Affinity Groups’ include its partnership with the Anita Borg Institute hosting “Girls Who Code” and Code.org which aims to increase computer and science-based learning among children and teens.
“We are working to develop leaders and shape future talent pools to help us meet the needs of our customers around the world,” Amazon said on its website.
