Amazon.co.uk is the latest to enter the wearable technology bandwagon, not with fitness trackers or smartwatches, but with a new dedicated store that functions as a hub for all available and upcoming gadgets to buy online and pre-order.
The Amazon’s UK Wearable Technology Store debuted with around 100 devices on offer, ranging from Jawbone fitness bands, augmented reality smart glasses, wearable cameras, heart rate monitors, GPS running monitors, to the devices from brands like Sony, GoPro, and Samsung. The store also offers A. Sauvage Wireless Charging Trousers that allows users to charge their mobile phones from their pockets.
Vice-president of EU Retail at Amazon Xavier Garambois said that the wearable technology advancements mean that users can charge electronic devices like mobile phones with their clothing, track pets through wearable devices. He added that the new store will provide customers with “whatever they are looking for” like a one-stop-shop.
Director of consumer electronics at Amazon.co.uk Andrew Milliken said that “many customers” are using wearable devices on a regular basis, adding that the sales of devices have “taken off in the last year.” He said Amazon’s focus is on providing users with all the required information to understand the wearable devices as well as to offer the “biggest selection” for them to “make the best possible choice.”
Wearable Technology Store also features a “Learning Centre” that allows users to search for the various products and know more about the specifications. Customers can check for device compatibility information and even request expert recommendations, before purchasing devices.
The Amazon’s new store also has an “Editor’s Corner” section that features commentary from experts in the wearable technology industry. Users can also check out the Video Library section for educational videos related to the wearable.
