Recent reports suggest Amazon is eyeing to test its Prime Air delivery drones in the UK.
A job advertisement posted by Amazon, seeking for a flight operations engineer to work in Cambridge, spotted last week suggest that the online retailer is recruiting workers to oversee its delivery drones.
The job listing reads the online retailer is seeking “a flight safety manager to ensure the safety and professionalism of [Amazon’s] flight programme”.
As per the job post, the successful individual will be responsible for conducting Prime air tests indoors and outdoors to ensure that the operation adheres to local safety regulations.
In order to qulaify for the post, applicants must have “five+ years of relevant aviation experience, either civilian or military, with either manned or unmanned aviation,” the job advertisement noted.
Amazon has also posted job advertisements for a Site Leader, Project Manager, Software Development Engineer, Senior Research Scientist and Office Manager to work on the Prime Air project in Cambridge.
“We have multiple Prime Air development centers, including R&D labs in Seattle and Cambridge. We’re always looking to add great talent to the team; the Cambridge-based Prime Air positions we have open are a reflection of that,” a spokeswoman for Amazon Prime Air said.
The US company had announced last year that it was testing its futuristic service dubbed ‘Amazon Prime Air’ which makes use of unmanned flying vehicles flying over houses to deliver orders to millions of customers within just half an hour of orders being placed.The online retailer had also launched a video on YouTube demonstrating how drone deliveries might work.
In July, Amazon said it was seeking permission from the US Federal Aviation Administration for testing drones with a speed of 50 miles per hour to deliver packages weighing up to 2.3 kg.
