Amazon has announced it is going to add High Dyamic Range (HDR) support to its Prime Instant Video service in the UK, Germany and US sometime later this year.
The e-retail giant confirmed that Amazon Originals would be the first content to arrive in HDR video quality. However, it did not disclose which of its titles will benefit from the increased contrast.
Amazon said that it is working with Hollywood studios, leading technology innovators and global consumer electronics companies to offer an unmatched HDR experience to its Prime members and customers.
Announcing the move, Michael Paull, Amazon’s vice president of digital video said “4K Ultra HD picture resolution was just the beginning – we’re excited that Prime members will soon be able to view movies and TV shows including Amazon Originals in HDR quality.
“HDR is the natural next step in our commitment to premium entertainment, and we can’t wait for customers to have even more choice in how they watch their favourite titles on Amazon Prime Instant Video.”
Amazon Prime Instant Video isn’t the only service to begin streaming content in HDR this year, rival Netflix has already confirmed that it would go for HDR streaming at some point later this year.
