Amazon on Wednesday announced the debut of 6 new devices including 2 new e-readers and 4 Kindle Fire tablets.
First on the list is the Amazon’s new e-reader, dubbed Kindle Voyage, which has been described as the company’s thinnest, most advanced Kindle ever, with the brightest, highest resolution, and highest contrast display.
The new $199 Kindle Voyage, measuring 7.6mm thick, packs in an impressive 300 pixels-per-inch display and a 39 percent brighter screen than previous Paperwhite models. The Voyage features ‘PagePress’ which lets readers turn pages by lightly pressing on one of the sides of the device and Adapted Front Light technology which dims the screen depending on the lighting conditions.
Amazon also launched a new low-end Kindle e-reader for $79, which features an E-Ink touchscreen, a faster processor, battery that is said to last for weeks.
Pre-orders for the new Kindle e-readers are open now with shipping to begin in October.
However, stealing the limelight of the show were the Amazon’s latest range of Fire HD, and Fire HDX tablets.
The online retailer launched an updated Kindle Fire HDX tablet with a 8.9-inch display, better sound and faster processor, available for $379. The HDX screen display is now sharper at 339 pixels per inch and taps in a new feature called “dynamic light control.” The HXD 8.9 also features the new Dolby Atmos sound system, both front and rear-facing cameras, a trackpad for its slim keyboard and a USB.
Amazon has also taken the wraps off 2 new Fire HD tablets available in both the new 6-inch and 7-inch models for $99 and $139 respectively. The new Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7 comes with a Mediatek 1.5Ghz quad-core processor, a high-definition display (with 252 ppi for the 6-inch tablet, and 216 ppi for the 7-inch tablet), and front and rear-facing cameras. Lastly, it is the “Kids Edition” of the Kindle Fire HD 6 and 7 tablets for $149 and $189, respectively. The Kids Edition tablet comes with a 2-year warranty and a year of Amazon’s FreeTime unlimited subscription service that offers access to a wide range of kid-friendly apps, books and videos and also lets parents set limits on screen time and content.
