Nokia has reduced the pricing of its Android powered Nokia X smartphone by Rs. 900 (~£10) in a bid to boost sales in one of its largest markets.
Nokia X was launched in India at Rs. 8,599 (£90) placing it just above the Asha range of smartphones, but below its Windows powered Lumia range of smartphones. Currently Nokia is only selling Nokia X in India and the price cuts may be an indication that the Finnish smartphone maker is planning to bring Nokia X+ and Nokia XL to the market.
The affordable Android-powered handset features a 4-inch display capable of 800×480 pixel resolution and packs a 1GHz Snapdragon S4 SoC, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage with support for up to 32GB microSD cards for increased storage capacity.
The lack of front facing camera in Nokia X and a lowly 3-megapixel rear camera does make it rather unappealing choice, but considering that the smartphone is targeted at smartphone aspirants and first-time buyers, Nokia may not be in trouble.
Another thing that may not be playing well for Nokia X is the choice of AOSP (Android Open Source project) based on JellyBean 4.1, which was released back in July 2012. Because of this, Nokia X lacks memory optimization features offered by Android 4.4 KitKat for low memory devices.
Nokia did release an update for the firmware to address bugs and increase performance of the device, but the base firmware has stayed the same which is a little limiting when it comes to core feature set.
