Acer has announced a Chromebook Pixel competitor (sort of) by equipping its exiting Chromebook with a touchscreen and that too at a fraction of the cost as its Google counterpart.
Dubbed C720P, the new Chromebook from Acer is powered by the same Intel Haswell-based Celeron 2955U CPU as its non-touch predecessor indicating that there shouldn’t be an impact on the battery life or the performance of the laptop.
Acer has halved the RAM from 4GB to 2GB, which could be a bummer for few; however, it has upgraded the SSD though – now offering 32GB instead of the 16GB one. The decrease in RAM wouldn’t affect most of the users, but those who are heavy multitaskers habituated to opening multiple tabs may see a slight performance drop.
Further, because of the protective glass layer that keeps the touchscreen from harm’s way, the screen gives a rather reflective glossy finish rather than a matte one.
The C720P Chromebook will be available is the US from Amazon, Best Buy and Acer’s website starting next month.
