Samsung has released its ChatOn instant messaging app for all major mobile platforms including iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Android today at an event in India.
With the release of ChatON version 3.5 the messaging app is now not only compatible with major mobile platforms, but also supports file sharing of up to 1GB and incorporates a language translation feature that enables people speaking different languages to chat with each other.
“ChatON Version 3.5 is available on all major operating systems– Android, Apple’s iOS, Windows and Blackberry– from today and for use across different kinds of devices. Users need not pay for it at present,” said Tarun Malik, Samsung Director, Media Solutions Centre, South West Asia. Malik also revealed that ChatON has 200 million subscribers globally.
“In the latest version, we have added many new features. It will allow users to share a file with a size of up to 1GB , the largest allowed by any instant messaging platform and the same can be send to 1,001 users at one-go,” he added.
A new feature, in a first, allows for instant translation of messages from English-to-Hindi and Hindi-to-English. Those who are not aware Hindi is the national language of India. Further, ChatON also incorporates a recall feature that allows users to recall a message that may have been sent accidentally.
ChatON v3.5 also features an integrated SMS mode, and supports video and voice calling over internet. Beyond that the messaging app will also enable access to content from various genres like news, entertainment, games, health and others through multiple devices and platforms.
