An Israeli startup StoreDot is developing a technology that it claims will fully charge your smartphone in 30 seconds; however, it would be years before you will be able to get on it.
Unveiled at Microsoft’s Think Next Conference, StoreDot showed off a prototype battery-charger that only works with Galaxy S4 at the moment. The prototype was able to charge the S4 within 30 seconds. StoreDot can be dubbed as a product of the nanotechnology department at Tel Aviv University.
The technology is currently limited to charging Galaxy S4 only, but the company said that it is working to ensure that the technology works with other smartphones as well. The company is looking at a late 2016 timeline for consumer ready products, but it hasn’t provided information as to when it is planning to get its 30-seconds battery charger to hit store shelves.
According to the Wall Street Journal the current size of the battery-charger is that of a laptop charger, but the company is looking at ways to reduce the size. Further, the company also revealed that the charger may cost somewhere around $30 – double the price of a regular charger available in the market now-a-days.
