EE has announced an increase in users’ monthly contracts by as much as 2.7 percent with effect from 28th May 2014 – a move it claims is in line with inflation and the current terms and conditions on monthly contracts.
EE issued the new terms and conditions for customers a month ago, which allows the network operator to raise prices once in a year by the RPI, Retail Price Index, a measure of the increase in prices for consumers in average across the country. Currently RPI stands at 2.7 percent, as published on 25 March.
Customers are yet to receive any notification from the telecom company confirming the price rise, but the operator has already posted on its website explaining the increase. EE has also added a calculator that will allow customers to work out how much the price hike will impact them.
“You will see a 2.7% increase to your monthly plan charge on any bills you receive from the 28th May, if you joined or upgraded to a 12, 18 or 24 month Pay Monthly or Small Business contract before the 23rd January 2014,” read the price change announcement.
“If you joined or upgraded after the 23rd January 2014 then you are not affected by the price increase. If you have upgraded to a new contract in the last 30 days you may still receive a letter, however the price increase is not applicable to your new plan.”
EE announced that it is making changes to a number of other charges such as standard UK calls, text messages and other services like calls to 08 numbers, international calls and MMS. These changes will also be effective from May 28, 2014.
