Microsoft has announced a March 27 event where newly appointed CEO Satya Nadella will be taking stage to provide opening remarks on things “focused on the intersection of cloud and mobile computing” and according to various reports Redmond will release an Office for iPad during the event.
According to ZDNet, the time has come for Microsoft to unravel its long-rumoured and long-awaited Office for iPad productivity suite and March 27 event fits the bill just perfectly.
To feature Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, the Office for iPad will more or less be similar to its iPhone counterpart – download from Apple App Store, but require an Office 365 subscription for editing documents.
The Verge confirms the news on ZDNet and reveals through its sources that the interface of Office for iPad will be similar to the existing iPhone version.
Nadella hinted at “cloud first, mobile first” strategy soon after he assumed the role of Microsoft’s CEO and the recent product launches including Office Online, and OneNote for Mac corroborate that strategy to the dot.
Launch of Office for iPad on March 27 may set the stage for even major announcements during the BUILD 2014 conference where the Windows 8 maker is expected to launch Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 8.1 Update 1, Windows 9 (rumoured), full-touch version of Office among other things.
