Microsoft will be shipping Surface 2 with LTE starting Tuesday in the US for $679.
Void of any discounts and bundling deals, the Surface 2 with LTE will be unlocked out of the box, but those looking to use the tablet on AT&T will have to opt for one of the ‘qualifying’ AT&T 4G plans on offer. Customers can either pick up the tablet directly from Microsoft or from Best Buy.
The Surface 2 with LTE packs the same configuration as the current Surface 2: 10.8-inch screen, NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, 64GB storage, Windows RT 8.1 among other things; however, the pricing is a little on the higher end of the spectrum if compared to other Windows RT powered tablets.
The current 64GB Surface 2 is priced at $549, and 32GB Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet is priced at $499 without any contract and $399 with an AT&T contract.
Some of the freebies included by Microsoft along with Surface 2 include unlimited Skype calls to landlines for one year; Skype Wi-Fi for one year; and 200GB of OneDrive storage for two years.
When asked about pricing of Surface 2 with LTE Microsoft spokesperson replied to ZDNet with the following statement:
“Surface 2 (AT&T 4G LTE) offers an unparalleled value for the price, especially when you consider pre-loaded Office, 200GB of free OneDrive (formally known as SkyDrive) storage, free Skype calling and unlimited Skype Wi-Fi. Now with LTE capabilities, Surface 2 (AT&T 4G LTE) is the most productive tablet on the planet for personal use on the market, and we’re proud to offer it for a competitive price of $679 USD.”
