It seems like Google is seriously interested in making its entry into the gaming arena as it has reportedly acquired maker of the Green Throttle controller, Green Throttle Games – a year after hiring Noah Falstein as the Chief Game Designer at Android Play Studio.
Green Throttle Games, which was founded in 2012 by Charles Huang, Matt Crowley, and Karl Townsend, is well known for is Bluetooth Atlas controller and Android Arena app that let users convert smartphones or tablets into makeshift gaming consoles. However due to lack of response, Arena was discontinued in November last year.
According to Pando Daily, the first to report the news, although Google has confirmed the acquisition deal , it has neither disclosed the financial details nor has it provided any information regarding what it may do with the Green Throttle team and product.
The report claims that the internet search giant, as part of the deal, hired “a few” Green Throttle team members, including co-founders Matt Crowley and Karl Townsend who will be heading to work in Mountain View. Charles Huang, one of the three co-founder members, will be retaining the rights to the Green Throttle business.
The Green Throttle Games acquisition is giving a clear signal that we might expect Google’s own Android console or set top box with console-like functionality to be coming soon.
