Microsoft founder Bill Gates, explained his new advisory role at the company, as a part of the Reddit ‘Ask me Anything’ session.
Last week, Microsoft announced that Bill Gates will take up a role of technology adviser at the company, as John Thompson replaces him as new Chairman, while Satya Nadella took up the role of new CEO, succeeding Steve Ballmer. Bill Gates, however, made it clear at the time of announcement that he will be spending more time with the company.
Adding more details about his role, Gates said during Reddit AMA that he will spend one-third of his time with Microsoft, two-thirds with his foundation.
“I am excited about how the cloud and new devices can help us communicate and collaborate in new ways. The OS won’t just be on one device and the information won’t just be files – it will be your history including being able to review memories of things like kids growing up”, said Gates.
“I was thrilled Satya asked me to pitch in to make sure Microsoft is ambitious with its innovation. Even in Office there is a lot more that can be done.”
Speaking about the new CEO’s vision about the company’s future, Gates said “Satya is taking a fresh view of where Microsoft is–strengths and weaknesses. A new person gets to step back and change the focus in some ways. He is off to a great start.”
Gates, who also claimed himself to have mellowed with a little extra wisdom in the last 20 years, gave a high level view of his role at the company –
“I make sure we pick ambitious scenarios and that we have a strong architecture to deliver on them. I encourage good work (hopefully).”
