Microsoft recently announced that it is renaming its cloud storage service SkyDrive to OneDrive as promised earlier in its trademark dispute settlement with broadcasting firm BSkyB which owns the trademark ‘Sky’ in UK.
Ahead of an official release, new leak on Liveside.net brings the first screenshot of the upcoming cloud storage service. The leak confirms that the service will have co-owned folder feature. The existence of the word ‘co-owners’ suggests that the upcoming feature is a new sharing mode for files.
The new feature will allow others, upon the decision of the account owner who created the folder, to gain access to all the files inside that specific folder. The files will appear as one of the co-owner’s own folders and the feature will also allow the co-owner to view, add, edit or delete files as well as invite others to access the folder.
Microsoft’s description of the feature reads “Co-owners can add, edit, and delete files, and invite people to a folder. You can collaborate with people by adding them as co-owners (to a folder). Co-owners can add folders to their own OneDrive and access it from anywhere”.
Redmond earlier teased its OneDrive service, but is yet to be officially launched. OneDrive.com takes users to an introductory page with the service said to be coming soon. An exact timeframe for the update has not been disclosed yet.
