A couple of reports from unrelated sources have affirmed the fact that Windows 8.1 Update 1 might just be ready for rollout and the tentative date is March 11.
First up it’s a report from Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet. Foley claims that she has received information from her trusted sources that Redmond is first planning a relatively minor update for its Windows 8.1 operating system and the update is slated for a March 11 rollout in the form of a Patch Tuesday update.
According to the report, Update 1 isn’t going to bring in a lot of UI related changes or updates, but would rather bring behind the scene refinements including code enhancements that would reduce memory and disk space requirements for the operating system thereby enabling cheaper tablets with low hardware specs to run the OS.
A set of leaked screenshots from Russian leakster WZor hint at the possible features of the Windows 8.1 Update 1 and according to WZor, the update would most likely arrive in the month of March.
Leaked screenshots revealed that Microsoft was working on updates to Windows 8.1 that would focus on making the OS friendlier to business users. A couple of these features include ability to pin “Metro” apps to the taskbar and view thumbnail previews of apps.
Windows 8.1 Update 1, however, is believed to continue the path of bringing three different experiences of Microsoft – Windows 8, Xbox and Windows Phone 8, closer on the way to the most anticipated potential release of Windows “Threshold”.
It seems if Microsoft does release an update in the speculated arrival date, the Windows 8.1 will get upgraded well before the Microsoft’s Build 2014 conference!
