After months of delays, and additional RC releases, FreeBSD 10.0 has been officially released today. We spotted the release builds on FreeBSD FTP servers yesterday.
“The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team is pleased to announce the availability of FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE”, announced Glen Barber in the mailing list announcement. “This is the first release of the stable/10 branch.”
Some of the key highlights of FreeBSD 10.0 are use of Clang as the default in place of GCC; TRIM support is available for SSDs with ZFS; removal of BIND from base system; pkg is now the default package management utility; addition of bhyve, virtio, and native paravirtualized drivers; support for LZ4 compression in ZFS; and official Raspberry Pi support among others.
