Apple may be all set for third quarter unveil of its iWatch alongside iPhone 6 with mass production slated for July as reports in the Korean media indicate that LG Display has bagged an exclusive deal to manufacture the display of the wearable gadget from Cupertino.
The report was initially published by ddaily.co.kr, but for reasons unknown it was pulled. Gforgames managed to find the cached copy of the report which states that Apple has awarded LG Display the exclusive contract to manufacture iWatch displays.
According to sources of the Korean publication, LG Display will be producing iWatch display panels measuring 1.52-inches and will be based on its flexible P-OLED display technology (Plastic OLED). This is the same panel that LG is using in its G Flex smartphones. The report also indicating that LG will start mass production of the iWatch display panels as early as July this year with an initial target of 2 million units.
Earlier it was rumoured that Apple won’t stick to just one screen size and will launch iWatch in two different screen sizes – one with 1.3-inch display for women and the other with 1.7-inch display for men.
It is also believed that Apple won’t present iWatch as just an accessory to the iPhone / iPads, but it is a part of a bigger plan of launching a device that will act as a controller of a home automation solution.
As with all Apple rumours, we would like our readers to take this one with a grain of salt as well.
