During its April Build 2014 event Microsoft is likely to unveil its next operating system Windows 9 aka ‘Threshold’ which will be released in April 2015.
According to Paul Thurrott, a Windows version which is being referred to as Threshold will be the base of Windows 9 operating system and its versions and will make an appearance at the upcoming developer conference. According to Thurrott’s sources, Build 2014 will be an event targeted towards Windows Phone and Windows Xbox One platforms rather than Windows operating system; however, Redmond won’t let the event go by without introducing its Windows 8 successor.
The report claims that Windows 9 Threshold will bring in some huge changes to the Windows operating system and this will be a release which will see the Start Menu return. Further, it is also claimed that Windows 9 will have the ability to run Metro-UI aka Modern UI apps alongside standard desktop software.
Many would have thought that the Windows 8.1 update, which may have received its finishing touches, would be followed up with Windows 8.2. However, considering how disastrous Windows 8 as a brand proved for Microsoft, Redmond may want to distance itself from the ‘8’ branded versioning and adopt a new name.
