Nokia has started rolling out the awaited Lumia Black upgrade to its Windows Phone 8 devices with Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925 getting the update first.
Recently released handsets – Lumia 525, Lumia 1320 and Lumia 1520 have – come with the tweaked firmware out of the box. Other devices including Lumia 920, 820, 720, 625, 620 and 520 will release the firmware update soon.
“Nokia Lumia WP8 owners around the world will start to receive the new Lumia Black software update on their smartphones”, announced Nokia’s Ian Delaney announced in a blog post.
“The Lumia Black update combines a host of new features, improvements in imaging, new apps and app updates from Microsoft and Nokia to make your Lumia smartphone experience even better,” Delaney added.
Some of the new features in the Lumia Black update include App Folder that allows users to further personalise and organise the Start screen; Nokia Glance screen 2.0 that allows users to keep track of information in real time including messages, email, calendar notifications; Bluetooth LE; Nokia Refocus; Nokia Beamer; Nokia Storyteller; Nokia camera; and latest generation of imaging algorithms.
Microsoft is also bringing some new features of its own including safe driving mode, ability to assign a customised ringtones to each contact, and the ability to close apps within the in multitasking view and lock the screen rotation.
