LG’s Korean division has detailed the company’s webOS TV revealing that the OS will power over 70 percent of its Smart TV lineup to be announced in 2014.
The webOS for smart TV is very different from what you would have noticed in your webOS powered smartphone or tablet. The new OS is based on three different features: simple connection, simple switching, and simple discovery.
Through the new Simple connection feature, users will be able to setup the TV correctly. Then it’s the Simple switching that allows users to quickly switch between different apps. The Smart TV also comes with an app store that already has apps such as Amazon Instant Video, CinemaNow, Twitter, Netflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu, and MLB.tv. A built-in browser also accompanies the Smart TV.
LG acquired webOS from Hewlett-Packard (HP) in February, 2013. The company later announced that it plans to utilize the operating system to enhance its Smart TVs and other consumer electronics products.
