Nintendo has recently announced a collaboration with Splatoon for its app Miitomo. The company is urging users too tweet using the hashtag #Miitomo_Splatoon_RT and in return the users might just get 10k worth in-app purchases on Miitomo, along with Splatoon gear. The goal of the campaign is obviously to bring more attention to Miitomo.
Miitomo is not your average social media platform
The way we interact with people has changed tremendously with social media. We might just use internet to stay in touch with our friends, but because of the openness, we also end up tolerating trolls and grammar Nazis who just come online to take a dig at other people.
And it can definitely be frustrating when you send out a tweets to a close friend but a lot of strangers get on the conversation too. Miitomo changes this by giving you the privacy you actually deserve. You can form small groups of close friends, and there wouldn’t be any troll or stranger in your group. There can be friends of friends that you might have heard about and never met, but no one from outside your circle.
Launched by Nintendo in March, users in Miitomo create their own avatars which are called Mii. They then connect with their friends, answer and share a bunch of questions about each other. Of course, in order to answer these questions, both the users have to know each other and no stranger can come in.
Users can also see answers by other friends that they might or might not know, and comment on the answers.
Of course, no social media app is complete without a photo feature that is why carrying the Mii avatar theme, Miitomo has a Miifoto feature. Through this feature, users can cut and paste their and their friends’ Mii’s on any picture on their phone. Users can also change facial expressions, outfits and positions. Basically this is the best way to make memes. But instead of being completely public, they are personal.
The reason why Nintendo is marketing Miitomo on Twitter is because the app can directly be synced to a Twitter account and users can invite their selected Twitter followers. The Splatoon gear will only be sent to users if they retweet Nintendo’s tweet.
The contest which will go on till April 26th will give an opportunity to users to dress their Miis in an Inkling girl wig, Inkling boy wig, or both. According to Nintendo’s condition on Twitter, 10k retweets will unlock the boy wig and 20k retweets will unlock the girl wig. Currently, the retweets have already passed 13k so the boy wig has already been unlocked, and we think it shouldn’t take more than a day to unlock the girl wig as well.
