Microsoft has finally revealed the release dates of its Windows 10 for Mobile through a Facebook page update.
According to the Windows 10 maker, the mobile version of its latest operating system should start hitting users’ phones as early as December and for users to be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for Mobile, they should have the Lumia Denim update installed on their handsets.
Microsoft also revealed that all Lumia smartphones with a minimum of 8GB internal storage will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for Mobile. According to this requirement, Lumia 530 will be the only smartphone that is not eligible for the upgrade to Windows 10.
According to the Windows 10 for Mobile page on Microsoft’s website, Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 635 (1 GB RAM), Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, and Lumia 930 will be the first set of handsets which will receive the update.
“Windows 10 is available on PCs and tablets now, and while Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL ship with Windows 10 for phones, broad availability of Windows 10 on other devices, including mobile phones, will begin rolling out in December,” Microsoft noted in a reply to a user’s query about availability of Windows 10 on Mobile.
However, that’s about it when it comes to details about the rollout as Redmond has refrained from detailing the upgrade path (over-the-air or tethering) and when third-party devices will receive the upgrade.
