With a more powerful 30kWH battery, the new Nissan Leaf promises a best-in-class 107-mile range – a 27 per cent increase over the 24kWH battery that was used in earlier models.
Nissan announced this through a press release wherein it added that the new battery will be fitted as standard in the 2016 LEAF SV and LEAF SL models. The company also announced that the upgraded Leaf will also pack an enhanced IT system that has been made more user-friendly and provides greater number of connectivity options.
The new SV and SL models pack 7.0-inch color display with multi-touch control, NissanConnect with Navigation and Mobile Apps, and Nissan Voice Recognition as standard while the S model features a 5.0-inch screen as standard.
NissanConnect with Mobile Apps system for Leaf S and Leaf SV & SL are different. As far as the S model is concerned it contains Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System and Text messaging, Streaming audio via Bluetooth, and USB for iPod interface and other compatible devices, while the SV and SL grade cars pack HD radio, SiriusXM Travel Link for weather, fuel prices, movie listings, stock info and sports among other things.
The new Leaf SV carries a starting price of $26,700 after federal tax credit, while the Leaf SL can be yours for $29,290. The car maker hasn’t upgraded the Leaf S model and it continues to be powered by a 24 kWh battery with an EPA-estimated range of 84 miles. There is no change in the pricing of the model.
The 80kW AC synchronous motor onboard the Leaf generates 107 HP and 187 lb-ft of torque, Leaf is said to provide a driving experience that is similar to that of petrol or diesel powered cars sans the emissions.
Using the NissanConnect EV system, which is free and doesn’t need any subscription, you can remotely connect to your car and keep an eye on the battery, start charging event control, and even turn on the heating or cooling even before entering the vehicle.
